With uncertainties regarding the citizenship provisions in Nepal, and no alternative arrangement to at least get a SIM card, study, or travel abroad, years-long tradition of cross-border marriage — both hills and plains — is declining.

-Vivek Baranwal |

In this fourth episode of the FSi podcast, the_farsight’s Sub-Editor, Vivek Baranwal talks with Mahesh Kushwaha, a political analyst and freelancing consultant, about Nepal-India cross-border people-to-people relations that correspond to sociocultural, economic, political, media, social media, and citizenship.

Kushwaha was previously associated with the Centre for Social Inclusion and Federalism (CESIF) as a political researcher from December 2019 to July 2021.

Having been part of research that studied cross-border relations between Nepal and India, he has been writing about it from various perspectives for quite a long time.

An Erasmus Mundas Scholar, Kushwaha has recently completed his International Masters in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic Studies from the University of Glasgow, Dublin City University, and the Charles University in Prague.

He hails from Kalaiya in Bara district, Madhes Province.

Vivek Baranwal is sub-editor at the_farsight.
