Monsoon conditions remain active across the country today, with the monsoon trough positioned near its average location, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).
Cloudy skies are prevailing over much of the country, particularly across the hilly and mountainous regions, while parts of the Tarai remain partly cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall is already occurring at a few locations in Bagmati, Gandaki, Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The weather office has forecast generally cloudy conditions nationwide throughout the day. Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly regions and at a few locations in the Himalayan areas, where light snowfall is also possible at higher elevations.
Parts of the Terai in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as isolated areas of Madhesh and Sudurpashchim provinces, are also expected to receive moderate rainfall with thunderstorms.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces.
During the night, cloudy conditions will persist across most parts of the country. Moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected to continue in several hilly and Tarai areas, with isolated heavy rainfall possible in the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
The DHM has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, debris flows and soil erosion. The department also cautioned that adverse weather may disrupt agriculture, tourism, mountaineering, road transport and domestic flights, advising the public to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and take necessary precautions.
