The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has secured NRs 326.8 million from the sale of television and over-the-top (OTT) broadcasting rights for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
CAN has awarded the global OTT rights to NetTV Pvt. Ltd. for NRs 180.4 million, while the Nepal territory’s linear television rights have gone to Himalaya Television Network Pvt. Ltd. for NRs 146.4 million.
The television rights were secured by Himalaya Sports (Himalaya TV) through a record bid. The company bid NRs 172.4 million including taxes, or NRs 145.6 million excluding taxes. According to the broadcaster, the bid is more than five times the value of last year’s broadcasting rights and nearly two-and-a-half times the minimum amount set for this year.
Himalaya Sports said securing the NPL broadcasting rights was both a matter of pride and a long-term commitment to Nepali cricket. The company said the rising commercial value of the NPL demonstrates the potential of building a financially sustainable and professionally managed sporting competition.
The broadcaster also said the growth in the league’s commercial value could strengthen Nepal’s broader cricket ecosystem by bringing in additional resources and creating new opportunities for the development of the sport.
The NPL’s television broadcast outside Nepal will continue through Star Sports.
CAN has also awarded the league’s ticketing rights to eSewa Ltd. for NRs 6.5 million. Under the agreement, CAN will receive 95% of revenue generated from ticket sales, while eSewa will receive the remaining 5 percent.
With the sale of media and ticketing rights, CAN has secured NRs 333.3 million in commercial revenue for the third edition of the NPL.
