The stock market continued its upward momentum on Monday, with the NEPSE index rising 25.55 points to close at 2,585.04, following a 28-point rise last Friday.

The market’s positive sentiment comes amid expectations of policy measures to support the stock market. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle recently announced plans to introduce a package aimed at improving the market. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s increased engagement with the private sector and efforts to build confidence among businesses have also contributed to improving investor sentiment.

Trading activity strengthened alongside the index. Total turnover reached NRs 4.69 billion on Monday, up from around NRs 4.36 billion in the previous session.

Of the companies traded, 226 recorded gains, while 47 declined and two remained unchanged. Among the sectoral indices, all sub-indices except mutual funds contributed to the market’s advance. Finance companies led the gains, rising 1.67%.

Infinity Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha recorded the largest gain, with its share price increasing 6.43% to NRs 925. In contrast, Upakar Laghubitta posted the steepest decline, falling 8.23% to NRs 2,536.

NRN Infrastructure and Development recorded the highest turnover at NRs 249 million, followed by Liberty Energy with NRs 238.4 million and Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower with NRs 203.8 million.

The market has also benefited from relatively low share prices across many companies and the beginning of the dividend declaration season, which has gradually encouraged buying activity.
